Check out this cool thing I discovered yesterday at Faneuil Hall. It’s called Zip..it and “It’s The Hip Zip.” It’s a pocket book (or change purse, laptop bag or backpack depending on which size and model you choose).
I was walking by a cart wife my wife, when the merchant at their stand asked me “Hey, do you know what this is?” It looked like he was holding a long zipper. In fact, he was holder a long zipper and I told him so.
“Yeah,” he replied. “But it’s much more than that.” And he proceeded to zip the long strand. Viola…a pocketbook took shape! Simple, but amazing. I’ve been wondering all day why this appealed to me so much, and finally realized that it’s because the design makes me wonder “how do they do that?” Plus, the sizes and colors are appealing in a fun way.
My daughter (Noah, 11) and her friend Katie (also 11) literally just walked into the room as I’m writing this blog and excitedly asked “who got a zip-it?!” It turns out that Noah has one too (a change purse) which she purchased from the same Faneuil Hall cart during a field trip last week. Katie has never heard of it before, so she’s zipping and unzipping my wife’s new purse right now, declaring “This is very entertaining. I could play with this all day!” Cute kid.
Zip-it is a perfect example of usability. Sometimes, as my wife likes to remind me from time to time, “Fun is Fun.”
