I’ve been to a many trade shows and events where I am given a lanyard with my name badge. While I appreciate the free gift, these always end up in the trash. I mean really, what use does a lanyard have once the conference is over?
Here’s an idea: use Zip-its for lanyards!
Zip-Its are basically just long zippers that, well, zip together to form purses, pouches, messenger bags, etc. Check out my earlier post to see what they look like unzipped. The smallest ZipIt product (a change purse) is 41 inches long. An average lanyard is about 44 inches long. What a coincidence…

Right on Matt. Check out this link to motivators.com “Environmentally Friendly” trade show merchandise. A lot of it is still crappy, trinkety stuff but at least it’s recycled.
I would like to see not only something cool done with lanyards, but a reduction of the amount of useless stuff you get at these events (how many frisbees, messenger bags, or squishy objects do you really need?)
What would be a cool company is one that creates sustainable and useful promotional products. Like http://www.branders.com/ but without the useless stuff, and with an eco-conscious and practical focus. Stuff you’ll actually use.
