Earlier this week I read nearly all of The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris. (I heartily recommend it, by the way). But it was a borrowed copy, and I didn’t quite finish it before I had to return it.
No problem…I just headed over to Barnes and Noble to pick up a new copy today. It’s worth having. But I would rather have found a used one nearby.
Used book exchanges have been around for ages in different forms, from library sales to Amazon’s used book marketplace. I love Amazon, but find it ironic to spend as much on shipping as I pay for a used book. So I looked around by googling “local book exchange’ and found nothing useful. Therefore, today’s idea is a mashup of Craigslist and Freecycle.
The idea is a website where you can register with your zipcode and an anonymous email address, enter the books that you are finished with, and wait for local people to find you. If you are looking for new reading material you can go there and sort by area (to see what’s available) or title (to find out who has the book you are looking for).
Maybe there’s something like this out there already. If so and you know of it, let me know ok?
