Our son will soon be old enough to take drivers’ education classes and start bugging us about getting a car (good luck with that one!). That’s an exciting right of passage that I remember from my own experience as if it were only yesterday. The reality though is that I am a concerned parent now, and young drivers are arguably less safe than ever before because of their inclinations to use their cell phones while driving.
I want to trust my kids and I want to keep them safe. What I would really like is a feature that would disable their cellphone when the car ignition is activated. That way they couldn’t even be tempted to talk and drive at the same time.
I’ve been saying for a while that Apple should build cars (a partial joke). I’ll tell you what: if they were to start doing so and they could synch the car ignition with the phone’s on/off capability I would actually justify buying iPhones for the kids.
Stop me now, please…
